Was the Negro a Slave or Captive?
This is a question worth asking because a slave is okay with their status, a captive is not. The rebellion of many african slaves is not so highly mentioned in the books of history that flow through major schools, but rebellion was a normal happenstance.
From 1526 to 1859, JA Rogers writes that there were 33 slave revolts in the United States. One of the more vicious revolts was headed by Nat Turner from Virginia. Turner went about his revolt in 1831.
Turner, a deeply religious man, took 6 men and they set out to free 3,000,000 (3 million) black slaves. His revolt was so harsh, the US sent marines and 2 warships after him. He slaughtered 55 whites and took over several plantations.
Other revolts included the Seminoles, runaways of mixed Indian and Negro descent, who fought 3 wars with the US to preserve their freedom.
